Acceptable Use
Last updated 22 October 2026
In short. Have fun, but you're responsible for how you use our apps. Prank people who'd laugh too. Only use sounds you're allowed to use. Never use our apps to spy on, scare, harass or hurt anyone.
This policy is part of our Terms of Use and EULA. Breaking it can mean we deactivate your license without a refund, to the extent the law allows.
You're in charge, and responsible
Our apps do what you set them up to do. You choose the sound, the trigger, the volume, the moment and the audience. That means you are responsible for what happens when you use them, and for any complaint or claim that results.
Sounds and other content
- Only load sounds, clips, voices and images that you made yourself, that are licensed to you, or that you otherwise have the right to use.
- Music, film, TV, game and creator audio is usually protected by copyright. Playing it for fun on your own Mac is your call; publishing or monetising reels that use it may need permission. That's between you and the rights holder.
- Get permission before using someone else's voice or face, and before sharing anything that features them.
- Don't use content that is hateful, sexually explicit around anyone who hasn't agreed to it, or that targets a person or group.
Pranks
- Only prank Macs you own, or where the owner is in on it (or would clearly be fine with it).
- Never prank someone wearing headphones or earbuds, or turn the volume up loud near anyone's ears.
- Don't prank people who are driving, operating machinery, presenting, sitting an exam, or anywhere a sudden sound could be dangerous or cause real trouble.
- Be careful around anyone who is unwell, elderly, pregnant, has a heart condition or is sensitive to loud noises or flashing.
- Don't use pranks at school, at work, or on someone else's device in a way that breaks the rules of that place.
- Stop when someone asks you to.
- Whatever happens at school, at work or with your friends because of a prank is on you, not us.
Cameras, microphones and sensors
- Never use our apps to watch, record, track or monitor another person, including partners, family, roommates, colleagues or classmates.
- Don't point camera features at anyone without their knowledge.
- Don't use detection features to make decisions about other people.
Safety
- No fake alarms: don't use sounds that imitate emergency sirens, alerts, gunshots, or anything likely to cause panic or a real emergency response.
- A light tap is all a motion-sensing app needs. Don't hit your Mac hard or anyone else's. Damage is yours, not ours.
- Don't use flash or sudden-sound features around anyone sensitive to flashing images or loud noise.
- Our apps are not alarms, security, anti-theft, medical, parental-control or monitoring tools. Don't rely on them for any of that.
Don't misuse the apps themselves
- Don't share, sell or publish license keys.
- Don't crack, patch, reverse engineer or redistribute the apps.
- Don't use the apps to break the law or anyone's rights.
Reporting misuse
If someone is using one of our apps to harm you or someone else, email abuse@megamac.app. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services first.
What we can do
We don't see what you do in our apps. If we receive credible evidence of serious misuse, we may deactivate the license key involved, without a refund to the extent the law allows, and cooperate with authorities where the law requires.
